Alaska
01
She isn’t like anything else in this world. She’s shy and slow to let you get to know her but you’ll find a special kind of wild at the center of her heart. She writes her own history without a care in the world about how it compares to the stories told by other lands. Clouds hang low and drift steadily across the mountains. You could sit and watch for weeks and never see the same view twice. Her certain unpredictability is what makes you so sure you are in love. Through the midsummer mist, greens of sitka spruce and willow blend together for miles until, when you’re least expecting it, the frosty blues of a glacier interrupt the serene landscape and steal away your breath. The sun breaks momentarily to offer a glimpse of the blinding white ice field and it is here that you know you can never truly know all of Alaska. You can only hope to pick up little treasures as you wander - chances to discover the brilliant violet and magenta of lupine flowers dotted across the foothills or moments reflecting on the cerulean water of a glacial pool. Denali’s peak may remain unseen but her presence amongst the clouds reminds you of the greater things in life our eyes have yet to feast upon. And today, it is best to know the wonder of Polychrome Pass. Alaska once again insists that beauty rests in every step of the journey, in whatever it is that you can see today. For tomorrow, the same view is never promised.
