California

Naked and Famous

California's name is plagued with fame and exposed secrets. She is far from undiscovered, and in fact, there may not be an inch of land within her borders that hasn't been touched. Yet she continues to evolve each and every day, just to remind us she belongs to no man. The ocean crashes icy blue waters into the rugged cliff sides, chiseling slowly away at the sandstone, siltstone, and limestone. Rivers flow over granite until they turn to icicles and reveal the weathering, black residue left behind where the waters once flowed. The desert inland becomes drier and fires blaze through forests with sureness and persistence that new life will grow here. That predictability will not win over nature's fight for constant evolution. And so in the city, people lead with the rhythm of time and obligation but here in the wild, we follow.
